System Map: Personal Edition
Last updated: 08/25/2026
Applies to: System Map — Personal Edition for Windows, macOS, Android and iPhone.
This policy covers only this app. Our other apps have their own policies.
The short version
Your information never leaves your device unless you choose to send it somewhere.
System Map — Personal Edition has no accounts, no sign-up, and no servers. It does not connect to the internet. We cannot see what you write in it, and neither can anyone else, because none of it is ever sent to us. There is no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no third party receiving your information.
If that's all you wanted to know, that's genuinely the whole story. The rest of this page explains the details, including a few things worth understanding before you rely on the app.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you enter — the headmates in your system, notes, relationships, pictures or drawings you add, and your history timeline — is stored on the device you're using.
On Windows and macOS, your information is saved in a file that you name and place yourself, in a folder you choose. You can move, copy, back up or delete that file like any other document.
On Android and iPhone, your information is stored inside the app itself and saves automatically as you work. It sits in the app's own private storage area, which other apps on your phone cannot read.
The app also remembers a few small settings on your device: which folder you last saved to, a list of recently opened files, and whether you've completed first-time setup. These are settings only — they contain none of your personal content.
What we collect
Nothing.
We do not collect, receive, transmit, store, sell, or share any information about you or your use of the app. There is no account to create. We do not know who our users are, how many headmates you've recorded, or whether you've opened the app at all.
The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party code that reports back to anyone.
Passwords and encryption
You can protect your information with a password. When you do, the app encrypts it using AES-256 encryption, with your password strengthened using PBKDF2 (250,000 iterations). This is standard, well-established protection.
Some honest details that matter:
We cannot recover your password. Because your information is encrypted with a key derived from your password, and because we never see either one, nobody — including us — can unlock your data without it. If you lose your password, that information is gone permanently. Please keep it somewhere safe.
On phones, the password is optional. If you choose "Skip" when you first open the app, your information is still stored privately inside the app, but it is not encrypted. Other apps still can't read it, but it isn't protected against someone with technical access to your unlocked phone. You can add a password at any time from the menu.
Face ID and fingerprint unlock, if you turn it on. This is off by default. If you switch it on, the app keeps a copy of your password on your device so it can unlock your information after your face or fingerprint is recognized. This is convenient, and against the everyday risk — someone picking up your phone — it protects you just as well as typing the password. But it is less private than a password alone against someone with deep technical access to your device. You can turn it off at any time, which removes the stored copy. We explain this inside the app at the moment you choose.
Sending a file to your therapist
The app can create a password-protected file to give to a therapist. The app does not send it. It saves the file to your device, and you choose whether, when and how to share it — usually as an email attachment.
Once you share a file, it travels through whatever service you used, and how that service handles it is outside our control. We recommend sending the password separately from the file, and the app tells you this too.
Purchases
You buy this app through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or our website. Those purchases are handled by the store or payment provider, not by us. They collect what they need to process payment and follow their own privacy policies.
We receive sales information from those providers — for example that a purchase occurred, and the name and email of the buyer where the provider passes it on so we can issue a licence key. This is entirely separate from anything inside the app. No information you enter into the app is ever connected to a purchase.
Children
This app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone — of any age — because we do not collect information at all.
Your control over your information
Because everything stays on your device, you are in complete control.
On Windows and macOS, delete the file to delete your information.
On Android and iPhone, deleting the app removes everything stored inside it.
Please read this before uninstalling on a phone. Because your information lives inside the app, removing the app deletes your information permanently. If you might want it later, use Back up a copy from the menu first and save that file somewhere safe.
There is nothing for you to request from us, because we hold nothing about you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so clearly rather than quietly editing the text.
